PANGAIA x Robert Rabensteiner is a collaboration drawing inspiration from wanderlust in nature. A limited-edition, ready-to-wear capsule that is powered by nature in every sense, and encapsulates a serene sense of escapism.
The former Editor-at-Large of L’Uomo Vogue, the sister publication of Vogue Italia, has never observed the ‘rules’ of seasonal dressing, and perhaps that’s why he is the undisputed man of menswear style. Because Robert has always lived life in color, and always embraced a polished yet casual, easy, style, no matter what the season. “Strong colors give you sunshine in your face,” Robert tells us during a chat on a less-than-sunny day in London.
Perhaps the union between PANGAIA and Robert isn’t obvious, but it’s a natural fit.
The styles—a unisex bathrobe, kaftan, poncho, towel, beach tote and slippers—epitomize easy summer dressing with soft, simple and natural fibers in vibrant shades.
So, what was the idea behind the collaboration?
“I’ve lived my whole life in different hotels across the world as part of my career,” Robert starts. “And if you go to the spa or the beach or the pool, the bathrobes are boring. This capsule dares to be different, offering different oversized shapes that bring attitude in strong colors. They are in a perfect balance of traditional influences and playful modernity.”
Wearing the capsule evokes a feeling of youth and embodies the warmth and energy of the season—from sun-kissed shores to tranquil waves and idyllic vistas. A summer relaxation uniform, in harmony with nature.
On the subject of nature, Robert grew up in it, which means he is well-practiced at wellbeing. Raised in the mountains of Austria, he is familiar with long walks in nature, wild swimming, yoga classes and breathing clean air.
The connection between nature and our health is as old as time, and Robert recognizes and relishes this.
“Observing nature, smelling nature and listening to nature revives and restores me, and gives me energy to create, to dream. It’s a gift.”
“Being in nature in the mountains allows me to create something in the city,” Robert says. “Throughout my life, nature has always given me the answer to everything. Nature really is the answer to everything.”
