PANGAIA x Coral Gardeners
Restoring the ocean, one coral at a time—together.
This year, we’re proud to announce our partnership with Coral Gardeners, an organization dedicated to saving our ocean’s coral reefs, which are in rapid decline. Part of the proceeds of all PANGAIA purchases made this summer will be donated to the cause, supporting Coral Gardeners’ incredible efforts of replanting and protecting our planet’s reefs.
Why are our coral reefs at threat?
Coral reefs are among the most biologically diverse and valuable ecosystems in the world. They only occupy 0.1% of the ocean but support 25% of all marine species on the planet.
But, they’re under threat — our planet’s coral is in danger of dying out. Approximately half of the world’s coral reefs have been lost in the last 30 years, and more than 60% of the remaining reefs are threatened by warming ocean temperatures caused by climate change and pollution.
The restoration project.
Coral Gardeners started in 2017 on Mo’orea, the sister island of Tahiti, French Polynesia, after a small group of surfers, free divers and fishermen noticed the heartbreaking degradation of their home reef.
The core of Coral Gardeners’ work is built around coral reef restoration. Using the latest techniques and methods, its team of gardeners grow and plant resilient corals to revive reef ecosystems. It aims to expand restoration around the world and empower local communities to become coral gardeners as part of a bluer economy. Coral Gardeners has already planted 31,000 corals in French Polynesia and has set a goal to plant 1 million corals by 2025.
